Halloween 2011

Last year, Nicky and I had promised Tiger that she could go trick-or-treating. We did not put much thought into it and simply set off in search of compliant neighbours and whatever sugar-products they might provide. As it turned out, Nicky and Tiger encountered a rather large group of children who seemed to have an esoteric understanding of local lolly-providers and they joined their group. I have since discovered that this group included Tiger's new and most beloved friend Queenie so, last week while at Lennox House, I chatted with Queenie's mother about their plans for this year. As it turns out, the Australia Street children were all meeting in a local park to travel in packs through local streets so I decided that we would once again simply tack ourselves onto their adventure. I did not think to organise a specific Halloween-oriented costume so we were left with Tiger's rather hodge-podge assortment of costumes to choose from - I quickly vetoed the dirty 'ballerina princess dress', the 'navel-baring mermaid costume' (which came in a bulk-lot off eBay) and, in the end, Tiger chose a flower-fairy dress that is several sizes too small for her and set it off with a purple tiara and magic wand:

The little orange-velvet pumpkin treat bag was gifted to us
by one of the lovely people at our local supermarket.
She excitedly handed me 9 of them to give to the local
children (and, incredibly, listed them by name).

As a last-minute impulse, I asked Tigerlily if she would
like me to do some face paint for her. It  was meant
to be a sort of rose fairy crown thingy but Tiger didn't
seem to mind the dodgy line-work - especially after I
stuck little pink jewels all over her face. I wonder if
I could get her to eat broccoli if I studded it with sparkly
pink things?

She seemed to have a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed it when her group came to our house and I was frightened by all the vampires, witches, and zombies there assembled. I refused to come out from behind our front-grill until they promised not to eat me which Tiger thought was hilarious. Queenie dressed as a particularly warty witch and, not surprisingly, Tiger has since informed me that next year she wants to dress as a witch. I feel a sudden desire to decorate the house and to dress in something a little horrifying myself; what a shame we have a whole year to wait!
